It's no secret that children can be very opinionated, but rather than fight against this natural tendency, embrace it with this primary grade writing project. After a shared reading of a children's book about Can you create a poem without writing a word! Once the materials are out, we will write on the board the key things every autobiography needs to have.
These will include a sequence of events, main events and details, facts, cover page, and a theme. Once these have been written and talked about, the students can begin to write their own. If they are having trouble finding things to write about, we will help them make a timeline. If they are straying from their theme they chose, we will help redirect them.
This will be the bulk of the session.
Autobiography activities for 3rd grade students
It should be individually done, so talking should really only be between teachers and students. Elaborate Once there is about 10 minutes left of the class session, we will call on a few volunteers to read their autobiography. It is okay if they haven't finished yet, we more so want to make sure they have the correct features.
After a few students have shared, we will wrap it up with a thank you and goodbye, before heading out. Evaluate Students will be evaluated throughout the lesson by teacher monitoring and guidance. Since there are five of us and less than 15 students, we will be able to monitor and really guide all students through the process of sequencing events and stating facts.
